The sessions will be held behind the Troop's water station. Each session will be limited to 10 boys each. It will include a discussion of art principles, some drawing/painting exercises, and a tour of the art show.  We plan on completing the merit badge in a single day but there is one prerequisite required listed below.

Troop Elections - April 29th at Troop Meeting

Posted on Apr 18 2024 - 10:57pm
Troop Elections - April 29th

On April 29th, Troop 1001 will be holding our annual Youth Leadership Elections for the upcoming scouting year. Scouts will be able to elect 8 Patrol Leaders and 1 Senior Patrol Leader. The fun thing is that the adults of the troop do not participate in the voting! The youth have full power over who their leaders will be next year.

To run for both Patrol Leader and Senior Patrol Leader, a scout must have participated in* Introduction to Leadership Skills in Troops (ILST) and National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) as well as have the rank of First Class or higher. Senior Patrol Leader Candidates must have already served on the Patrol Leader Council. Patrol Leader candidates will give one-minute campaign speeches about why they want the position and should be voted for while Senior Patrol Leader Speeches should be about three minutes long.

Any scout who wants to run for either of these positions needed to turn in a leadership application to Drew Baker or Mr. Booker already (if you didn't and are still interested, please reach out to Drew or Mr. Booker to discuss).
ALL scouts planning to run for a position MUST attend the scout and parent meeting on April 22 at 6:30PM to discuss these roles.

All other positions (troop guide, quartermaster, historian, etc.) will be appointed by the SPL and Scoutmaster but not elected at this meeting. Applications for these positions must be turned in by May 21st.

Leadership time is a requirement for every rank after First Class. Look in your scout book for the required number of months for specific ranks as well as job descriptions for each role. We can’t wait to see how each of you choose to serve in this upcoming year!

*or have a plan to participate in. Please speak with the scoutmaster to work out a plan.

Cottonwood update: Adults needed for Thursday and Friday for Cottonwood and open positions on the Cottonwood Committee

Posted on Apr 18 2024 - 10:43pm

Thursday and Friday (May 2nd and 3rd) we are still needing more adult volunteers for the cottonwood shifts during the day (maybe those who aren't working or have flexibility).  Please look at the SignupGenius HERE and sign up for a shift or two.

Also, there are still three empty seats on the Cottonwood Committee that need to be filled, so if this is a position in the troop where you could add your time, talents and ideas, we would love to have you.  If you can do that, please reach out to Nick Palmos (email: cottonwood@troop1001.org) and he can answer questions or get you signed up.
